De’light’ful Christmas as Eskom suspends loadshedding

After weeks of power cuts, the utility says chances of loadshedding remains low until next year.

RESIDENTS will have a delightful Christmas as power utility Eskom has announced that there will be no loadshedding during this period. After weeks of power cuts, the utility says chances of loadshedding remains low until next year.

“The probability of loadshedding remains low until Sunday, 13 January 2019,” said Eskom.

This has been attributed to the decrease of power supply demand as businesses and industries will close for the holidays.

In a statement Eskom said this could however change as heavy rains during the December and March period could affect coal handling and feeding to broilers, which has an effect on generation production.

“While we do not anticipate load shedding over the holiday period, local outages could occur not as a result of load shedding but due to technical faults on the distribution network. If consumers experience power outages, they are advised to contact the Eskom Customer centre or their municipalities to allow for early restoration,” read Eskom’s statement.
