The November Numeracy Challenge 2018 online Maths competition was free and contested by Mathletics schools from across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It was however, open to schools that do not usually subscribe to the application. Out of the 401 schools from across the world that entered, Chelsea Preparatory School achieved the place of twenty-seventh in the world, fourth in South Africa and first in KwaZulu-Natal.

The challenge results were ranked according to the average points per child from the school.

The school’s computer teacher, Jessica Mardon said, “We achieved an average of 2 666 points. We are very proud of all our learners, as they did exceptionally well.”

The top Grade 5 learners were Zenkosi Nkosi(10), with 5094 points, and Kyle White, with 4570 points. The top Grade 4 learner was Seohyun Ha (9), with 3490 points.”

The school is now challenging other KZN schools to compete in the competition next year.

“We also encourage more KZN schools to enter the competition, especially because schools who are not subscribed to the programme can also compete and have the benefit of the programme for the week of the challenge,” she said.
