uMhlanga beach set to be tip top shape

This year, at the end of the Umhlanga Summer Festival's daily programme the community will be enlisted to help get the beach clean.

THE standard of cleanliness on Umhlanga Main Beach will be kept up over the festive season. That’s according to Umhlanga Tourism’s Peter Rose who was speaking last week at the launch of the Umhlanga Summer Festival 2018.

This year, at the end of the festival’s daily programme the community will be enlisted to help get the beach sparkling clean and ready for the next day.

“A big part of the festival is to encourage awareness about our natural beauty spots in uMhlanga and to actively keep them beautiful – so there will be daily beach clean ups, and the organisers are encouraging a ‘No plastic straw policy’ to avoid unnecessary plastic to find its way into the ocean,” said Rose.

What’s more Rose said this season will be an opportunity to help Girls & Boys Town: an organisation based in nearby Verulam that cares for vulnerable children.

“So, you see, it really will be Cool to Care! Umhlanga Tourism – caring for people and the planet,” added Rose.
