Help Josh make a splash for charity

The Northlands Primary School learner along with supporters will swim 1 500 metres at his school's pool (64 laps) to help support East Coast Radio's Toy Story campaign.

LAST year Durban North resident and Northlands Primary School learner, Josh Crocker, made a literal splash for charity.

The Grade 7 learner swam 1 500 metres at his school’s pool (64 laps) to help support Toys R Us/Babies R Us and East Coast Radio’s Toy Story campaign.

The campaign provides joy by bringing toys to thousands of children in government hospitals, children’s home and crèches across KwaZulu-Natal.

A total of 800 toys were donated to the cause and Crocker is hoping to break that record this year and make an even bigger splash at his event, The Big Swim.

“This year is going to be bigger and better. I’ve challenged other schools and Northwood School, Clifton College and Durban Prep High School have agreed to take part which is just fantastic. My goal this year is to have more than a 1 000 toys donated. Last year I challenged ECR DJ Darren Maule to swim some of the laps with me but this year I’ve challenged the entire ‘Breakfast Team’ which should be great fun.

I urge the local community to come out and support me, all I ask is to bring a toy as an entry fee to come support the swim,” he said.
Crocker added a collection box would also be set-up in the school’s foyer. He will also be supported by his fellow Northlands Primary School learners.

The event takes place on Tuesday, 20 November at 10.30am at the Northlands Primary School pool (20 Gleneagles Drive). The entrance fee is a toy. A collection box will also be set-u at the school. These donated toys are then distributed at pediatric wards in state-owned facilities across the province.
