We’re Watching (Out For) You

Marshall Security is a pioneer in Automated Number Plate Recognition technology.

These days we scan things with our phones, stream whatever we want to watch and have access to information at the touch of a button, wherever we are. Our cell phones talk to our tablets talk to our laptops talk to our cars talk to our TV’s talk to our banks talk to our watches.

Basically, everything is connected. Content is dispersed within seconds. And it’s starting to feel like our stuff might be smarter then us.

But one of the most amazing things about living in an age where technology already has an answer for just about everything, is that every day new ideas are still thought up, and new solutions invented. Marshall Security is proud to have been a pioneer of one such solution in KwaZulu-Natal.

In 2017 they introduced cameras with Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR). It’s pretty heartwarming (if you’re us) to see tech being used to catch the guys that are generally responsible for trying to steal i ANPR cameras are erected in area/community hotspots and the number plate of every vehicle that passes it is captured and relayed to our Emergency Contact Centre, in real time.

At our Emergency Contact Centre, the registration numbers are automatically checked against both our own and the SAPS Sought Vehicle Database. Suspicious vehicles are immediately flagged. Armed Response vehicles are dispatched to the last known location of the suspicious vehicle in an effort to proactively prevent crime in the area. The entire process, from image capture to team dispatch takes seconds and gets proactive results.

So, from a suspicious vehicle (let’s say it is wanted in connection with a housebreaking elsewhere) driving past the Marshall camera’s, to a Marshall Security team hurtling in their direction to prevent a similar sort of criminal act from taking place, the person that may have been their ‘victim’ probably hasn’t even had enough time to order pizza for dinner. AND they will remain blissfully unaware that a crime was possibly prevented before it even happened.

Tyron Powell, Marshall Security Founder and Managing Director, is really excited about the changes that this new technology has already brought, as it continues to alter the face of crime, and how criminals are caught, in the country.

He added, “using technology like this is the way forward for security and we encourage all communities to get more information on it, so that we can fight crime successfully, together.”

By using this state of the art technology and equipment Marshall Security have already had 31 successes, including arrests and vehicle recoveries (a number that continues to climb and impact crime and criminals operating in an area.)
