More than 30 arrested for drunken driving on North Coast Road

The operation also saw the arrest of two suspects who were charged with dealing liquor.

MORE than 30 motorists are expected to appear is court soon for drunken driving. On Saturday, Greenwood Park SAPS arrested the 32 drivers along North Coast Road. Working with Metro Police, Greenwood Park conducted a road block in search of road rule breakers.

“The operation focused on various cases. However as we are still observing October, National Transport Month, we want to make sure ordinary citizens are safe on the roads. We also want to minimise the number of accidents and deaths in our precinct,” said Greenwood Park police spokesperson, Sergeant Vincent Mthembu.

Mthembu also urged members of the public to cooperate by always obeying road rules and reporting anyone who does not.

“Please refrain from drinking and driving, especially as we approach the busy festive season,” he said.

The operation also saw the arrest of two suspects who were charged with dealing liquor. One was arrested for attempted murder and four others for drugs.
