Kingsmead confirmed as T20 League host venue

Kingsmead joins Bidvest Wanderers Stadium, SuperSport Park, St. George’s Park, PPC Newlands and Eurolux Boland Park as the bases for the tournament.

CRICKET fever has started to grip KwaZulu-Natal fans of the game after Kingsmead was confirmed as one of the six host venues for the new T20 League competition.

Kingsmead joins Bidvest Wanderers Stadium, SuperSport Park, St. George’s Park, PPC Newlands and Eurolux Boland Park as the bases for the tournament, following an independent assessment by Nielsen Sport.

“It’s a great feather in the cap of the Durban cricket fans that the stadium ticked all the boxes when it comes to fans support and passion for the game,” said KZN Cricket CEO Heinrich Strydom.

“It will be exciting cricket that I am sure the Durban cricket lovers will embrace, and ensure that our five home games are all played with that classic Kingsmead big match vibe about them. It also reaffirms the status that we have worked so hard at building for Kingsmead as a premium cricket venue,” he said.

With the roll-out of the tournament now well under way, with the marquee player announcement, fixtures, player draw and team identities to be announced next week, Strydom said he was thrilled to be hosting the T20 matches at the home of the KwaZulu-Natal cricket fans.

“The Durban fans love white ball cricket and T20 matches in particular, so we are really looking forward to hosting these games at Kingsmead,” he said.
