SALB currently experiencing minor glitches

The SALB provides reading materials found in public libraries in formats accessible to the blind and disabled.

THE South African Library for the Blind (SALB) is currently experiencing problems in implementing its new management system. SALB has announced that the challenges are specifically with the module used to select books on behalf of their members. The SALB provides reading materials found in public libraries in formats accessible to the blind and disabled.

In a statement the organisation said, “Due to the unique way the system selects material for library members and interacts with the other modules of the Library Management System it is taking longer than anticipated to rectify the issue.”

It went on to say their clients can breath a little easier as their service delivery, in general, has not been severely impacted.

“A manual system selection and distribution process has been in place since the module failure was detected. This may result in some delays, and SALB Management regrets any inconvenience this may cause to library members. Every effort is being made to address the problem in partnership with programmers of the system and we request the library members and public to bear with SALB during this period,” read the organisation’s statement.

If you are a member of the library and you have not been receiving your reading material, you are advised to contact them as soon as possible.

“There are also unconfirmed delays from the Postal Services which may impact the distribution of reading material to Library Members. Members are welcome to contact the library if they are not receiving material and every effort will be made to ascertain the reason including area-specific post office delays. Overdrive and other services are available on the SALB website (www.salb.org.za) to library members to access reading material. All other ancillary services and production processes are not affected by this temporary module error,” SALB said.
