Northcrest calls for end in violence against teachers

On Tuesday, 18 September Northcrest staff dressed in black to show solidarity to the many teachers who are victims of learners at their schools.

AMID the rise of incidents displaying violence against teachers, Northcrest Primary School teachers have called on all communities to join forces to end the scourge. Recently, a teacher was stabbed to death by a learner at a school in North West.

On Tuesday, 18 September Northcrest staff dressed in black, showing solidarity to the many teachers who are victims of learners at their schools.

“When one of the teachers approached me with the idea I thought it was a brilliant idea. Especially because there is certainly a rise in the number of teachers who are assaulted by their students. The idea was a spur of the moment decision. We only discussed it yesterday,” said school principal Thami Mkhize.

The teachers in their all black outfits said the rate at which the scourge is growing is very alarming. They urged government and the community at large to assist in ensuring their safety.
