15 arrested for drunk driving on M4

Durban North SAPS say they will continue to hold roadblocks targeting drunk drivers.

DURBAN North SAPS with Metro Police held a roadblock on the M4 just before the Virginia off-ramp on Friday night resulting in the arrest of 15 drunk drivers.

Captain Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, said he hoped the arrest would send out a stern warning to drunk drivers.

“Being arrested for drunk driving is not a misdemeanour, it is a serious crime and a preventable choice. We have a zero tolerance approach for drunken driving, so appeals for leniency because some people view this as a ‘lesser crime’ are ridiculous. We will continue to host roadblocks to try to ensure safety on our roads,” Deokaran said.

Deokaran said police would be holding roadblocks at various points along the M4 throughout the year.
