WATCH: Blue duiker rescued in uMhlanga, released

The elusive little mammal found itself in hot water when it ran into a popular uMhlanga restaurant.

THE release of a Blue Duiker,  rescued from a restaurant in uMhlanga at the weekend has been captured on camera.

According to Chandré de Bruyn, the marketing an communications manager at the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW), the tiny buck found itself in hot water when it accidental ran into a popular restaurant in the busy suburb.

Fortunately, he was captured by a few good Samaritans and taken to a nearby veterinary clinic, where he was kept until CROW staff were able to collect him.

“He was kept overnight for observation, and when it was determined that he was uninjured we released him the next day (Saturday, 26 May),” said de Bruyn.

Taylor Hawking, who is a clinic nurse at the NPO, said it was not uncommon for them to get rescue call outs regarding Blue Duikers in the uMhlanga area.

“It depends on the breeding season and traffic in the area,” she said.

In the video the elusive little mammal can be seen dashing out of the crate and then nervously surveying the area.

He then trots of and vanishes into the distance.
