Two nabbed on Umhlanga Rocks Drive

The male and female suspects were handed over to the SAPS for further investigation and processing.

TWO suspects have been arrested in connection with several robberies in the north of Durban. The pair was apprehended by Marshall Security on Umhlanga Rocks Drive on Friday night.

Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen said: “At approximately 8.30pm on Friday night, Marshall Security were alerted to a sought motor vehicle via our Automatic Number Plate Recognition Cameras.

The vehicle in question, a silver BMW was wanted in connection with several cases of armed robbery in the north Durban and surrounding areas.”

According to van Reenen the vehicle has been involved in armed robbery cases.

“A similar modus operandi existed among the many cases, where the vehicle pulled up alongside pedestrians before robbing them of their cell phones often at gunpoint and fleeing at high speed.

The vehicle was spotted by the Marshall Security Special Operations Team on Umhlanga Rocks Drive near Margaret Maytom Avenue and brought to a stop,” said Van Reenen.

The male and female suspects were arrested and handed over to the South African Police Services for further investigation and processing.

Van Reenen concluded by saying, “Further information received, revealed the male suspect to be currently out on bail for a previous conviction in the south Durban area.

We urge anyone who may have fallen victim of a similar crime to contact the Durban North SAPS.”
