Arnold rescues black mamba found in car dashboard

Jason Arnold is no stranger to rescuing venomous snakes not even reptiles hiding in the dashboard of a car.

A LARGE black mamba that managed to wedge itself in the dashboard of a Reservoir Hills resident’s vehicle has been rescued by Sunningdale snake man, Jason Arnold.

The 2.5 metre mamba was removed from the dashboard of a Chev utility bakkie in Glenara Road in Reservoir Hills.

“The homeowner opened his vehicle and went back into his house to get something. When he returned to the vehicle and was busy climbing into the bakkie, he noticed the snake near the gear lever. He just spotted a section of the snake’s body and the head, and at that moment he retreated and closed the car door.

“Together with his work colleague, they armed themselves with sticks and opened the car, only to find that it had vanished. The homeowner had done work up in Ballito yesterday and assumed that’s where the snake had entered his car. He later viewed footage on his CCTV cameras and confirmed that the snake had in fact come from his yard and could be seen entering his vehicle in the short time that he went back into his house to fetch something, leaving the car door open,” he said.

Arnold added black mamba mating season had begun. He said activity is expected to increase until the end of July.
