THE PREMIER Soccer League (PSL) has condemned the violent riots which engulfed Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night after the Nedbank Cup match between Kaizer Chiefs and Free State Stars.
Angry Chiefs supporters stormed the pitch after the final whistle as their side lost 2-0 on the night that also saw Amakosi coach Steve Komphela step down as head coach.
Supporters set plastic chairs alight, damaged advertising boards and even assaulted a security guard, who is in a serious condition.
Absolutely diabolical scenes at Moses Mabhida Stadium tonight. Kaizer Chiefs will be in big trouble for this. Unacceptable from the supporters.

More than R3-million worth of damage was done to television and audio equipment.
In a statement on Sunday, the PSL said ‘hooliganism and thuggery of this nature has no place in football’.
“Acts of violence perpetrated by individuals like last night cannot be tolerated. The league will work closely with law enforcement to ensure that those responsible for this hooliganism are subjected to judicial process,” the statement said.
Two people have reportedly been arrested in connection with the violence.
On Twitter several football fans urged the PSL to take drastic action against the fans involved in the riots.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Chiefs haven’t even really acknowledged what happened last night. They announced that Komphela was leaving, but that’s it.

The disturbing culture in South Africa is for people to behave like monsters and burn the country before their voices are heard. Kaizer Chiefs fans knew exactly what they were doing.

The sad thing about the #NedbankCup #Chiefs game is that I see people saying the crowd invasion was a good thing because now Chiefs management knows there's a problem?
Property was destroyed. A lady was beaten until unconscious.
How is any of that a good thing?— Sports Guru (@G_Skev) April 22, 2018
