LISTEN-Glen Anil resident escapes rock throwing on M4

The Glen Anil resident has warned motorists using the highways to be vigilant at all times.

A GLEN Anil resident has warned other motorists using the M4 Ruth First Highway to be vigilant after he narrowly escaped becoming a victim of a rock throwing incident.

Marc Gessner was travelling on the M4 southbound on Wednesday evening at about 7.30pm when he spotted a rock being thrown at the side of his vehicle.

“It was a small rock and it was thrown from the side by the bushes along the M4 and it narrowly missed my vehicle. It happened about 700 metres from the La Lucia off-ramp. I just kept my wits about me and kept on driving but I immediately alerted my contacts and Sun Cell Watch. I’m glad there wasn’t any serious damage to the vehicle or to me but I would like to warn other motorists in the area,” he said.

Gessner said while he hadn’t reported the incident to the police, he wanted to warn other users of the highway.

This is the second incident of alleged rock throwing on the M4. Last month, an uMhlanga mother escaped serious injury after a rock was thrown at her car before the uMhlanga off-ramp.

There have been more than six rock throwing incidents, one of which resulted in the tragic deaths of Amina Haffejee, 16, and her brother Abdur Raheem, 7, who died when a boulder struck the windscreen of the car they were travelling in on the N2 last year.
