Jaws of Life used to free driver in uMhlanga crash
The driver of the vehicle collided with the concrete structure of the M41 overhead bridge.
A MAN was injured after crashing into a bridge on the M4 in the early hours of Tuesday morning. According to Crisis Medical spokesman, Kyle van Reenen, the accident occurred just after midnight.
“The driver of the vehicle collided with the concrete structure of the M41 overhead bridge, leaving the driver entrapped in the wreckage. Advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilise the 29-year-old driver, while eThekwini Fire and Rescue Services worked to cut him free using the Jaws of Life. Once freed, the man was placed on a specialised stretcher for the prevention of spinal cord injuries and taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital,” he said.

The accident came hours before a security guard who worked at King Shaka International Airport was run over by a car on Ndwedwe Road in Cottonlands.
“Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to the scene after receiving multiple calls from the public reporting the incident. Upon arrival, medics assessed the pedestrian and found that he sustained life threatening injuries which led to his death,” said Reaction Unit SA’s Prem Balram.
