Siam Lee laid to rest

Friends and family paid their final respects to Siam Lee at a private gathering on Friday.

FAMILY and friends said their goodbyes to Durban North resident, Siam Lee, who was laid to rest on Friday in a private gathering at Stellawood Cemetery in Umbilo.

This after KwaZulu-Natal Police confirmed the charred remains found in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands were in fact those of Lee after DNA evidence conclusively identified her body.

Lee’s body which had been held a mortuary for weeks was released on Monday.

Sue Foster, a close friend of Lee’s mother, Carmen Nan, said this had been a trying time for family and friends.

“Carmen has gone through two months of emotional trauma which has been debilitating. Being able to lay Siam to rest allows us some sort of closure and a chance for the family to heal but the pain is still there. On Friday we put Siam Lee into the arms of the angels,” she said.

Lee was reported missing in January and was allegedly kidnapped outside a Margaret Maytom Avenue home. Days later, her charred remains were discovered by a farmer in a sugarcane field in New Hanover.

The man accused of her murder, is facing 16 charges including kidnapping, rape and assault with intent to do bodily harm.

The Assagay resident is currently awaiting his bail hearing at the Durban Magistrate’s Court this week. Last month he alleged he had been subjected to harassment and had been tortured and assaulted by Durban North police.

Residents of Clarendon Road Neighbourhood Watch earlier this month lit candles and dropped off bouquets of flowers outside the Margaret Maytom Avenue home.
