Jamie welcomes new year with crowning glory

BEING crowned Miss Junior South Africa was one of the launching pads for local beauty, Jamie de Bruine. The Greenwood Park resident was recently crowned Miss Africa South and Miss Africa Tourism World 2017, an additional title she won. It was a first in the competition’s history. Northglen News recently caught up with her to find out about her plans for the new year.

“It was a massive challenge for me because the expectations were high. Winning Miss Junior South Africa was such a blessing but I felt even with that title behind me I needed to prove my worth in this competition. Being announced as the winner was something I didn’t expect. It was such a surreal feeling but I’m so honoured to be crowned the winner of the competition. I believe that your biggest wish, your greatest dream, your strongest goal and your best plan should be to invest in yourself and your community. It will strengthen you and make you stand out,” she said.

De Bruine, who is a brand ambassador for Flawsome, an NPO said she hopes to continue her charity work this year.

“I am a brand ambassador for Flawesome. The NPO’s message is as a community we have so many flaws but do not see the awesome in it. At Flawesome we look at these flaws and find the awesome in it. Empowering not only young boys and girls but the entire community to look at life in a more positive way. I’m also extremely passionate about young children and babies and I want to do as much as I can to help causes close to my heart,” she said.

The 20-year-old said she was now hoping to win the Miss South Africa title. She is currently a regional finalist for Miss South Africa 2018 (in KZN).
