Navigating Sunningdale potholes is a ‘nightmare’

The City's Roads and Stormwater Department has approved the construction of several speed humps on the road but residents say the road needs to be resurfaced first.

RESIDENTS of Sunningdale have bemoaned the state of their roads, that are in need of serious repair. Last week Northglen News was contacted by local resident and member of the Sunningdale Homeowners’ Association (SHOA), Tyron Powell, who said Sugarfarm Trail, in particular was a ‘nightmare’ to drive on.

The city’s Roads and Stormwater Department has since put up large ‘Pothole’ signs warning drivers but there has been no repairs.

“The potholes keep growing, every time it rains, which becomes an absolute nightmare driving on the road as you have to swerve to avoid the hole sometimes encroaching on the other lane. Pete Graham the local councillor said the City’s Roads and Stormwater Department had approved the construction of several speed humps on the road but the road needs to be completely resurfaced before that happens.

“There are more than six potholes of various sizes lining Sugarfarm Trail with one of the biggest just a few metres from the business complex on Sugarfarm Trail. Despite the patch jobs the holes reopen which always happens after a heavy downpour. I’m not in a unique position here, other residents feel the same way, something has to be done,” he said.

Another resident concurred with Powell saying the roads needed resurfacing first.

“Some roads, particularly Sugarfarm Trail, needs to be resurfaced entirely, there is no use repairing them and then having to redo it months later because that doesn’t solve the problem. The engineering standards around the city are different, and some roads were done sub-standardly a very long time ago. The city has not kept up with development in the North which is expanding at a rapid rate,” the anonymous resident said.
