Two home invasions rock Durban North, Glenashley

The robberies occurred on Doreen Crescent in Glenashley and Grosvenor Crescent in Durban North.

POLICE are looking for several suspects involved in two armed home invasions. The incidents took place on Doreen Crescent in Glenashley and Grosvenor Crescent in Durban North. There have been 12 armed house robberies in recent months in the north Durban area.

According to Kyle van Reenen of Marshall Security, in the Glenashley robbery, the three armed suspects gained entry to the premises by derailing the driveway gate and then forcing entry through a glass door just after 2am.

“The armed men confronted the homeowners, tying them up and confining them to a bedroom, before ransacking the home and fleeing in the homeowners’ Ford Ranger motor vehicle.  The vehicle, was fitted with a satellite tracking device, monitored by BidTrack and a signal was reported in the Amaoti area, north of Durban, where it was later recovered abandoned off a dirt road by recovery agents and the Marshall Security Special Operations Team.

“No injuries were sustained in the incident, however the victims were left severely traumatised and the assistance of the Durban North Umhlanga Crisis Team was sought to counsel them,” he said.

Just hours earlier, five armed suspects jumped over the rear wall of a home in Grosvenor Crescent confirmed Craig Ardendoff of Sun Cell Watch.

“They held up the family at gunpoint and stole three vehicles, cash jewellery, cellphones, a TV and four iPads,” he said.

It is understood the the vehicles taken in the robbery were later recovered.
