Iconic Durban North hypermarket gets a makeover

The Hyper by the Sea in Durban North has been serving customers since it opened in 1978.

DURBAN’S incredibly popular Hyper-by-the-Sea relaunched as a state-of-the art Hyper today, offering its customers a brand new, contemporary shopping experience. The Hyper by the Sea in Durban North has been serving customers since it opened in 1978.

This is the first Hyper to relaunch as part of Pick n Pay’s Next Generation project.

“The ‘grand old Hyper’ is now in breathtaking shape, and we’re looking forward to welcoming regular customers as well as shoppers from all over Durban,” said Kevin Goosen, General Manager, Hyper by the Sea. “We’ve created an inviting, vibrant space that’s alive with colourful innovation, top-of the-line product and the freshest produce and concepts,” he said.

According to Pick n Pay, the Hyper will take the next generation concept to a new level.

The Pick n Pay Clothing section has also been expanded with a new, fresh layout. Fresh innovations at the Hyper will include a vegetarian deli, and a take away pizza counter.

The expanded sushi bar now boasts the addition of poke bowls, and customers can look forward to new artisanal additions in the bakery. Shoppers can also expect an updated design-your-own salad bar and a new juice, smoothie and cut-fruit bar.

There is also a brand new Mugg & Bean at one entrance, and a Wimpy at the other. Both open on 30 November, offering customers great food and coffee options for families.
