Boy (10) targeted by armed robbers in La Lucia

The boy was forced to show the armed men where the safe in the house was located.

A 10-year-old boy was at the receiving end of an armed gang who struck at his home in La Lucia on Thursday evening.  The gang attempted to rob a home on Moreland Drive in uMhlanga before robbing a home on Addison Drive in La Lucia and Hambridge Avenue (Somerset Park).

Blue Security’s community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios said the boy was targeted in the Addison Drive robbery.

According to Mathios, six armed robbers had tampered with the driveway gate and motor to gain entry into the property in Addison Drive. The incident occurred at around 5.40pm.

“The suspects then forced open the door to the house and held up the domestic worker and children. They threatened and assaulted the resident’s ten year old son, demanding that he show them where the safe was located,” he said.

He said the gang forced open the safe and removed jewellery. They fled the scene with the jewellery and a digital video recorder. Durban North SAPS attended the scene of the crime and the Durban North crisis team was called to assist the traumatised child.
