Support a ‘snapping’ good cause

The SPCA photo competition was about raising funds for the neglected, abused and unwanted animals at the SPCA's Springfield premises.

THE winners of the annual Durban & Coast SPCA’s third Paws for the Camera calendar competition will be announced on Thursday, 2 November. The staff and volunteers of the animal rights organisation revealed 13 visually stunning photos of dogs, cats and other pets (with or without their humans) to the Northglen News last week in an exclusive sneak peek.

The calendars, which will be available at the SPCA’s premises on Willowfield Crescent in Springfield Park from Friday, 3 November cost R150.

According to the organisation’s Lindsey Concer, the generous donations from sponsors and entrants helped cover the costs of printing for the 2018 calendar.

“We had 89 entrants all together. Each entrant had to donate R50 to enter and there were a number of them who went above and beyond that. Through the entries and generous donations from our sponsors we were able to cover the costs of the calendar which was awesome. That means through the sale of the 2018 calendar, 100 per cent of the profits will go through the SPCA.

“Like last year, we were overwhelmed by the number and quality of entries which perfectly captured the pets’ beauty, playfulness and friendship. We’ve done a highly commended page on the back of the calendar which features the photos we thought were beautiful but couldn’t make it into the calendar mostly due to resolution or the shape of the photo,” she said.

All of the entries will be displayed on the SPCA’s website www.spcadbn.org.za.
