Beloved postman hangs up his mail bag

On 31 October, Ramrajh Rambhrose turns 65 and will officially retire, and says he plans to fish more often, a hobby he enjoys when he is not working.

IN the past 40 years, Ramrajh Rambhrose has become so familiar with the streets of north Durban that he knows residents on a first name basis. His dedication to the craft has seen him walk close to 100 kilometres a week battling conditions that would force ordinary people to give up. With just a few days left before he retires, Ramrajh Rambhrose, said he would like to thank the community for their kind words and support.

“Ever since the article appeared in the Northglen News, I’ve been stopped and congratulated by so many people, especially at La Lucia Mall. It now takes me an hour to deliver the mail at the mall,” he laughed.

“That said, the response from the community and the well-wishes has been overwhelming. I’m really going to miss the area, the people and most of all my colleagues. I’m so grateful when I hear stories from people about how I used to be their postman when they were growing up and now they have families of their own,” he said.
