Northlands Girls softball team end season unbeaten

Northglen News recently caught up with some of the players to speak about their monumental season.

NORTHLANDS Girls’ High School thrust themselves into the limelight recently after ending the softball season unbeaten. What is more the first team has been promoted to the A-Division of the softball school league. Northglen News recently caught up with some of the players to speak about their monumental season.

Ashleigh Paul, captain of the team said she was proud of her charges and said hard work and dedication paid dividends for this season.

“Our coach, Ziyaana (Booley) was a great help. At the beginning of the season we’d set out the goal to be promoted and I’m incredibly proud of the girls. This is an awesome achievement and a monumental one to be promoted,” Paul said.

Sarah Rowlands, vice-captain of the squad, was also full of praise for the team.

“We are like a family and I feel what set us apart this season was how we played for each other. I’m under no illusions that next year is going to be tough but I think the team has what it takes to succeed,” Rowland said.

Dominique Pather, another one of the players said they had a tough season ahead of him.

“We are just enjoying the moment. Next season will be tough as we are losing both Sarah and Ashleigh as this is their final school year. But like Sarah says, we just have to build on this year’s success. Our coach has motivated us all the way and we’ve fed off each other’s energy which has been awesome,” Pather said.

Coach of the team, Ziyaana Booley, echoed her team’s thoughts.

“I’m so proud of the girls. I think they have been exceptional this season. Their drive and mindset has not wavered through the season and that’s what I’m most proud of,” Booley said.
