One dead in horror M4 accident

Since Friday, four people have been killed on the M4.

ONE person has been killed while 15 others were injured after a taxi crash on the M4 near Blue Lagoon. The accident occurred in the northbound lane between Argyle Road and the Blue Lagoon off-ramp. The tragedy brings the death toll to four on the Ruth First Highway since Friday. It’s unclear what led to the accident but it’s believed the taxi rolled several times.

Paramedics confirmed the total number of people treated over the weekend on the M4 stands 27 who were injured in four separate accidents on the M4 over the weekend.

Traffic has severely been affected by the taxi accident and authorities have urged those using the freeway to seek alternative routes.

On Friday night, paramedics from Rescue Care and Crisis Medical responded to an accident on the M4 before the Swapo Road off-ramp where a man was ejected out of a vehicle. He was declared deceased on scene by paramedics.

On Saturday night, just before midnight, paramedics responded to yet another accident in the same vicinity.

Reports from the scene indicate that whilst the members of the South African and Metro Police Services were conducting a roadblock operation, a vehicle traveling at high speed, disregarded the early warning measures, smashing into the rear of another stationary vehicle, whilst policemen clambered to safety.

“Three passengers of the stationary vehicle sustained injuries, with one suffering serious injury. The offending driver did not sustain any injury and was remanded into the custody of the SAPS. In a separate incident on the same highway, a man believed to be in his late forties, sadly lost his life. His vehicle was found to have careened off the roadway into dense bushes. The man suffered fatal traumatic injuries and there was nothing Paramedics could do to assist. He was declared deceased on arrival,” she said.
