The gang fled into the nearby sugar cane field and are still at large.

A WOMAN was robbed by a gang of men who hid in the sugarcane field on eMdloti Main Road recently. The woman who was walking towards the village said the incident occurred at about midday.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the suspects demanded her valuables and fled back into the sugarcane bush.

“The woman was robbed of her handbag, which included her cell phone, five perfumes and R1 000 in cash. The suspects weren’t armed but threatened the woman and ordered her to hand over her valuables. At this stage, our investigations are still ongoing and no arrests have been made,” he said.

Deokaran urged residents, where possible, to walk in large groups. He added several domestic workers have also been targeted in muggings in the north Durban area.
