Crawford pays tribute to former learner killed in accident

The school issued a statement on Facebook paying tribute to the former learner.

CRAWFORD College La Lucia has paid tribute to former learner, Michael Hook, who passed away over the weekend. Michael Hook (Class of 2008) was involved in a fatal car accident in Johannesburg over the weekend.

The school issued a statement on Facebook saying Michael will be remembered for his quiet, gentle nature which resulted in a good relationship with his peers and teachers.

“Popular and well-liked, he was non-judgemental and happy to converse with students at all levels in the school. He always gave of his best in all tasks that he was required to do. As a confident young man, he was comfortable to voice and express his opinions if necessary and taking the moral high ground when required to do so.”

Michael, who was a keen sportsman coached hockey and cricket at Crawford La Lucia College, and was voted the Senior Sportsman of the Year.

“Michael’s main and favourite sport was cricket and he captained the 1st XI in 2008. He was selected for the KwaZulu-Natal Coastal U/17 team and represented South Africa in Indoor Cricket for two years. At the 2008 Matric Valedictory Evening, Michael received All Rounder Sportsperson Award for participating in the greatest variety of sports at the College. Truly a fine Crawfordian, a special student and a fine gentleman taken too quickly. The Hook family is in our thoughts and prayers during this very traumatic time,” the school said in a statement.
