LISTEN: Rosehill residents tackle crime in clean-up
The clean-up follows the recent sexual assault of a Rosehill resident.
LOCAL residents took a stand against crime on Saturday by clearing a pedestrian walkway on Rosehill Avenue. Of concern, was a pedestrian walkway which runs parallel to the road where the incident took place.
The walkway was covered in thick bush and had not been properly maintained for more than a year. A group of around 12 residents decided to clean the area up by cutting back the thick vegetation to stop potential criminals from hiding in it.

Durban North ward councillor, Shaun Ryley, praised the residents’ initiative: Here is what he had to say:
Susan Loeve, one of the organisers said the incident had galvanised the community to act.
“After the sexual assault as a community we felt it was one thing saying sorry, but we needed to come through and do something about the issue. So we put out an appeal on WhatsApp and a few residents responded. The suspect was spotted a few days later hiding in the bushes along the walkway. We felt this could become a haven for criminals to hide. I’m pleased with how many residents did respond, at the end of the day we wanted to get the job done,” she said.
