Northwood victorious against UK touring side

The first match saw a future U16 Northwood team take on an older and more experienced Loughborough second XI.

NORTHWOOD School hosted Loughborough Grammar School from the UK in two hockey matches last week. The Knights won both games against the touring side. The first match saw a future U16 Northwood team take on an older and more experienced Loughborough second XI.

The match started off at a blistering pace that resulted in some early chances for both sides, however an excellent flick into the bottom right of the goal from Dylan Ferreira off a PC meant the hosts took the early lead.

That goal seemed to settle the nerves of the Northwood boys who then began to pass the ball with precision and pace, leaving the Loughborough defence vulnerable. Brayden Bergset capitalised on this and scored a stunning goal.

Not long after that, Nicholas Bright found the roof of the net with a great strike of his own. Loughborough then hit back just before the half with a goal of their own to leave the score 3-1 at the break. The second half saw an exhibition of hockey from Northwood who left Loughborough in their wake with four unanswered goals to run out 7-1 victors.

The second match saw a ‘stayers’ Northwood team taking on Loughborough’s first XI with the hosts running out victor 2-1. The match wasn’t as free-flowing as the first one as Loughborough played a half-court press to eliminate Northwood’s pace and ball speed in attack.
However this could not stop the Knights, who, with goals from Chris Sarafidis and Marco Dalle-Vedove saw the hosts clinch a well deserved 2-1 victory.
