Police 10111 staff robbed at Beachwood mangroves reserve

The armed suspect involved in the robbery is still at large.

TWO 10111 call centre employees were robbed by an armed man in the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred at about 4pm. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, the women were walking on the boardwalk near the beach when they were accosted.

“A suspect who was armed with a knife jumped out at the unsuspecting women. They were robbed of the cell phones and the suspect fled on foot towards the reserve exit. Several other call centre employees who were there for a picnic spotted him and gave chase but unfortunately could not catch him. Some of our officers assisted in the search for the suspect who was seen fleeing towards Blue Lagoon, however, the search proved unsuccessful. We are urging residents and businesses who are visiting the reserve to walk in groups,” he said.

The suspect is still at large.

In May this year, thieves stole tyres off a trailer as well as an Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife vehicle parked at the reserve.
