4 causes to help out with on Mandela Day
Get involved this Mandela Day and help out these awesome causes.
ON Mandela Day (18 July), people around the world are encouraged to spend at least 67 minutes doing something positive for their communities. The day is about honouring former South African president, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela who spent his life fighting for social justice, equality and democracy.
Here are 4 causes you can contribute to on the day:
- The Domino Foundation has put together an action-packed challenge to serve the local community for 67 minutes. Each hour, a team of 10 will tackle the 670 metre course, and will move through Action Stations where each member will be required to complete set challenges which ultimately support the programmes of The Domino Foundation. Email Rowan via email volunteer@domino.org.za or calling 031 563 9605 (Rowan or June).
- The Durban North Blood Donor Centre is hosting a special blood drive on Tuesday, 18 July from 8am to 6pm. The Sunflower Fund, who is co-hosting the drive encouraged residents to dedicate their 67 minutes for Mandela Day to donating blood. The centre is situated at Kensington Square, 53 Kensington Drive Durban North. For more information on donating blood, contact the Durban North Blood Donor Centre on 031 563 1493 or visit www.sanbs.org.za.
- THE South African Guide Dogs Association for the Blind will be hosting an awareness and fundraising campaign this Mandela Day weekend at La Lucia Mall. Residents will also have the chance to meet three month old, golden retriever, Selleck, Durban’s first guide guide dog puppy. Food Lovers Court on the 17 and 18 July from 10am to 12pm.
- This month the Luna Foundation pledges to take action to do something, to evoke involvement. We will unite as a team to make a difference to those who can’t, to add value to the lives of those less fortunate. Get out those used tekkies/runners, dust off your old sporting equipment and donate them to our cause. This month Off The Grid (OTG) will unite to inspire change in honor of Nelson Mandela. If you with us, drop off your donations at OTG Athletic – 30 Meridian Drive, The Centenary Quadrant, uMhlanga New Town Center. All items will be donated to the Angel Network.
