State Vet launches north Durban rabies vaccination campaign

The vaccination campaign begins next week.

THE State Vet has launched its Durban North rabies vaccination campaign which gets under way on Monday, 3 July. Globally, it is estimated that up to 59 000 people die of rabies every year. While the disease is often fatal, it can be prevented. That’s the message from the Durban & Coast SPCA who have urged residents to get their pets vaccinated.

Lindsay Concer, spokesman for the organisation said, “As a responsible pet owner, having your pets vaccinated is essential. Vaccinations protect your pet from a multitude of contagious and deadly diseases, such as parvovirus, distemper and rabies. Should you be bitten by an animal that does not have proof of vaccinations you should seek medical treatment immediately. Rabies has an incubation period of a few days to over three months,” she said.
