ANCYL set to march on Umhlanga Rocks Drive

The march is aimed at addressing the land issue as well as radical economic transformation.

THE African National Congress Youth League ward 35 branch will march along Umhlanga Rocks Drive this Saturday, 24 June. The march which begins at 9am starts at the new Engen garage at Ilala Ridge and will proceed to Gateway. According to an Instagram post by the organisation, the land issue as well as radical economic transformation will be addressed by the marchers.

Durban North SAPS have confirmed the march is legal. Metro Police and SAPS will be on scene. It’s unknown how many people are expected to attend the march.

Attempts to get hold of the ANC were unsuccessful, however, according to deputy president, Cyril Ramaphosa, radical economic transformation is an acceleration of the current transformation of the country’s economy to benefit all and if implemented correctly can speedily address the imbalances of the past.

“Radical economic transformation is, in essence, about building a more equal society through sustained inclusive growth. It requires that we change the structure of our economy. We need to fundamentally alter the racial and gender composition of the ownership, control and management of our economy. We need a South African economy that truly reflects the composition, diversity and interests of the South African people,” said Ramaphosa.
