Kindlewood and Izinga, sold out

The developments are an integration of urban and natural environments.

KINDLEWOOD and Izinga – two ground breaking residential developments to the north of Durban – are sold out, according to Mondli Msani, Development Manager of Tongaat Hulett Developments.

“These developments are the realisation of that vision which seeks to actively encourage integration of urban and natural environments where each element reinforces the other to provide an entirely new urban identity and way of life,” Msani added.

He said that a variety of green building practices and various technologies had evolved together with Kindlewood and Izinga. Features such as water recycling and solar energy were incorporated.

“We wouldn’t do anything differently should we launch future residential developments. When Kindlewood was launched, it was a new concept,” he explained.

The first phase of Kindlewood – a gated residential estate in Upper uMhlanga close to Gateway and uMhlanga Ridge – was launched in 2006. The second phase went to market in 2007, the third was launched in 2012 and the fourth followed in 2014.  Msani said all four were officially fully subscribed by March and equates to around 600 units. Phase 1 is fully constructed while phases 2 to 4 are still under construction.

A fifth and final phase, which comprises high end residential and retirement units is due to launch in 2018.

“Many of the purchasers are building which is a good sign. Some of the initial Kindlewood houses are already being resold and they have a good resale value,” he said.

He said that Kindlewood was strongly community based with one of its key attractions being its location. It is close to the Umhlanga Ridge Town Centre, the Gateway Theatre of Shopping. Characterised by its signature aluminium wrought alloy Baobab Tree, Izinga comprises Izinga Ridge, which launched in 2004. The word Izinga, in isiZulu, signifies an aspirational benchmark or level of achievement which is reflected in the fact that many of the province’s professionals and executives have invested here.
