WATCH-Pint sized piano player makes history

The Crawford Preparatory La Lucia learner recently performed with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra.

HISTORY was made last weekend when Crawford Preparatory La Lucia grade 4 learner, Amy Luo performed with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra. The nine-year-old became the youngest person to be accompanied by the orchestra in the City Hall. Luo also received a standing ovation from the crowd for her performances.

“When I was little I began playing the piano. My mom would teach me how to play as she used to. I always listened to classical music and it’s one of my favourite genres. When I performed in front of the big crowd, I didn’t feel nervous, I was excited and happy because so many people clapped for me. When I first started it was scary but I got used to it,” she said.

Luo who plays violin and piano says she prefers playing on the piano.

“I practise every day and I go to lessons once a week. I enjoy playing the piano more because it’s a lovely sound and it’s eaiser to play. For the violin you need good intonation,” she said.

The talented musician said she hopes to win a trophy at the upcoming Queensburgh music festival where she will be performing on both instruments.
