Protest action set for Armstrong Avenue

Metro Police and Durban North SAPS will be in attendance on the day of the protest action.

DURBAN North SAPS have confirmed that there will a planned protest on Friday along Armstrong Avenue in La Lucia. According to Col Rene Dlamuka of the station, the protest action is due to start at 10am and finish at 2pm. Between 50 and a 100 people are due to march to vent their unhappiness with a local business.

“Armstrong Avenue, Frosterley Crescent and a section of Umhlanga Rocks Drive near the Square Hotel will be affected. The protest action will affect traffic and we urge residents to avoid the area if possible. Metro Police will also be on scene to monitor the crowd. The route of the march begins at the bottom of Armstrong Avenue and will end on Frosterley Crescent just before Umhlanga Rocks Drive,” she said.

A memorandum is expected to be handed over on the day and police have confirmed there will be no stopping on the route to the offices.

Dlamuka added information circulating about Umhlanga Rocks Drive being cordoned off were incorrect.

Earlier this week a WhatsApp message was sent out saying the road would be cordoned off.
