Man airlifted to hospital after N2 accident

The man is in critical condition said Netcare 911 paramedics.

A 34-year-old man has been left in a critical condition after an accident on the N2 near the Sibaya off-ramp. According to Chris Botha, Netcare 911 spokesman, the pedestrian was struck trying to cross the busy freeway on Wednesday morning.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the man was running across the highway when he was hit by a vehicle. Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the man lying on the roadway with life-threatening injuries. The vehicle that hit him was at the scene, and was extensively damaged. The driver sustained moderate injuries, and after he was stabilised at the scene, they transported him to a nearby hospital,” he said.

“TheĀ  critically injured pedestrian was placed on a ventilator. After the thirty-four-year-old man was stabilised for the flight, they airlifted him to a specialised hospital on board the Red Cross medical helicopter.”

The road was closed temporarily to allow the helicopter to land.
