Snow expected in the Berg

The cold front will bring snow this weekend says Snow Report SA.

DON’T be fooled by today’s weather, there’s a cold front on its way and according to Snow Report SA, temperatures are set to plunge. They expect snowfall in parts of the Drakensberg.  According to Snow Report SA’s Facebook page, snow falls will be confined to the EC Drakensberg and surrounding areas at this stage, with the exception of Hogsback, which could just see a light dusting on Friday.

“Friday morning will see the first snow falls over the EC Drakensberg, extending into Lesotho and the KZN Drakensberg by lunch time. These falls will continue into the evening and through the night on Friday, and some falls could start appearing on the foothills and in towns close to the KZN Drakensberg (eg Underberg).

They added snowfalls in the KZN Midlands are looking unlikely at this stage although there are light flurries possible in Matatiele, Kokstad and surrounds.

“We are seeing the possibility of some snow depths up to 100cm over some areas of the Drakensberg for the duration of this snow event. The Drakensberg will get snow right from the EC through to the northern Drakensberg,” they said.
