Petrol thief strikes in Durban North

Police are reviewing CCTV footage of the incident.

POLICE are looking for a man wanted in connection with the theft of more than R350 in petrol. The man targeted a service station on Mackeurtan Avenue at about midday on Monday, confirmed Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS.

“The man asked for a full tank and once the attendant had filled R350, he drove off without paying. We are reviewing video footage of the incident to try and locate the thief. Unfortunately the vehicle was fitted with fake number plates,” he said.

Deokaran urged petrol attendants and station owners to ask drivers to switch off their cars while they are filling up.

“It’s also important for staff to remember to always record the registration numbers of vehicles that fill up at the garage before customers are allowed to put fuel in their tanks,” he said.
