Thief tries, fails to steal 2 bikes, 2 homes

The attempted thefts occurred within 30 minutes of each other.

POLICE are looking for a man responsible for two bungled motor bike thefts in Durban North and Rosehill. The attempted thefts occurred within a half an hour of each other. According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the suspect was last seen wearing a red long sleeve shirt.

“The thief initially tried to steal a motorbike from a property in Rosehill. He derailed the front gate, removed a motor bike from the garage, but left it behind after failing to start it.

“About 30 minutes later, he stole a scooter from a home on Ennisdale Drive in Durban North. He was seen by the homeowner pushing the scooter down the road. He only got 100 metres from the property before abandoning it. He broke the ignition of the bike after failing to start it and then fled on foot,” he said.

Van Reenen added a description of the suspect was circulated to reaction officers.

“The suspect was spotted fleeing on foot down Blackburn Road.  A chase and search was conducted, but unfortunately the suspect managed to get away.”
