City warns of hoax letter

A letter claiming the City's banking details have changed is a hoax.

THE City has warned residents to be aware of a fraudulent two page letter being circulated notifying customers of alleged changes to the City’s banking details. The first page bears the incorrect Municipal logo with an unknown address while the second page is a letter allegedly signed by ABSA bank.

The two page letter instructs customers to make all payments for their Municipal accounts into a new ABSA account, effective from 1 April. It further states that the previous Municipal account is reserved only for Forex and international clients which is incorrect.

“All Municipal bills issued to customers have the correct banking details at the bottom of the page. We are currently investigating the source of this fraudulent letter.
