Valuation Roll objection deadline extended
Residents who are unhappy after inspecting the Roll have the opportunity to lodge an objection as well as an appeal.
THE deadline for eThekwini residents to submit objections to the General Valuation Roll has been extended until 16 May. Initially, the deadline for objection submissions was 31 March, but this was later extended to 2 May, and on Tuesday, at a meeting of the Executive Council, a further two week extension was agreed upon.
In terms of the Municipality Property Rates Act, municipalities are required to revalue properties every four years for rating purposes. EThekwini Municipality advertised the third General Valuation Roll on 10 February. The Act requires that the roll must be open for inspection for not less than 30 days from the date of the last advertisement.

eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede said the city had worked hard to ensure the valuations were a fair and transparent process. She said residents who were unhappy after inspecting the Roll had the opportunity to lodge an objection as well as an appeal.
Customers are advised that staff are situated on the ground floor of the 75 Dr Langalibalele Street building who will accept objection forms and deal with any queries arising from the valuation process.
Objection forms may also be handed in at any of eThekwini Municipality’s Sizakala Centres or can be scanned and emailed to val.roll@durban.gov.za.
