Brothers unite for Comrades Marathon for PinkDrive
The brothers will be wearing pink in honour of their mom who passed away after a battle with cancer.
WITH less than 40 days before the start of this year’s Comrades Marathon, Durban North residents and brothers, Jody and Duane Taylor are ready to tackle the daunting task of completing the race for charity. Jody (29) and Duane (33), who are part of the Faku Chiefs Athletics Club will be raising funds for PinkDrive, a cause close to their hearts.
The Taylors have been involved in a few events where they have donned a pink kit in support of the PinkDrive and it started when their mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011. She passed away two years later and Jody said this year, like always he wanted to honour his mother as well as pay tribute to Cancer survivors.

“I’ll be running in my pink shorts, it has sort of become my trademark if I’m honest. I have the word mom on the back and it’s a constant reminder of how strong my mom was through her battle. I was always mommy’s little boy. The shorts are a reminder when the going gets tough, that it’s nowhere near what she went through. I draw inspiration from her strength,” he said.
This will be Jody’s sixth run, three of which have been up-runs.
“I’m always looking to better my times and if I can get under nine that would be great. So far all my medals have been bronze and if I do get to change it this year, I want it to be silver or a Bill Rowan medal,” he said.

His brother, Duane, who will be completing his fourth Comrades Marathon, said having his brother by his side has made training easier.
“I’ve only done one up-run in 2015 and it was a real struggle. This year though, we’ve done more mileage under our belts. We’ve worked on our leg strength and focused on hill training. It’s great having your boet by your side; he has made it easier for us. I’m going to be wearing pink socks with a pink cap for this year’s race. My mom was always there seconding us whenever we completed any race, even at her toughest times, and I will be drawing on her courage and strength come race day,” he said.
