LISTEN: Informal settlers ‘forced’ upon Kenville residents

The concern is that this is a busy road frequently used by heavy duty vehicles that could endanger the lives of the informal settlement residents.

SEVERAL residents and ward councillor Bobby Maharajh, have expressed their concern over a group of informal settlers who were allegedly moved from Centre Road to Sea Cow Lake Road Informal Settlement by the City. Maharajh and members of the Kenville/Sea Cow Lake Ratepayers Association spoke to the Northglen News about their concerns on Tuesday afternoon.

“I was told 10 people had been moved from another informal settlement to this existing one on Sea Cow Lake Road, however there is more than 10 people here erecting shacks. The City told me because land is municipal property they could move people where they needed to. The building supplies and several of the resident’s possessions were then dropped off on the busy road. The major concern is that this is a busy road frequently used by heavy duty vehicles and the lives of these residents will be at risk,” he said.
