It all adds up for Nirvana

Former Effingham Secondary learner launches study guides that cover the school maths syllabus from Grade 8 to Grade 12 level.

REDHILL resident Nirvana Gounden recently launched two study guides entitled ‘I Do U Do Maths’. The books are split into two, with Book 1 dealing with Algebra, Calculus and Number Patterns while Book 2 deals with Trigonometry, Geometry, Functions and Graphs. The former Effingham Secondary learner said that the books cover the School Maths syllabus from Grade 8 to Grade 12 level.

She recently launched the guides at the Firwood Library. What sets her guides apart are the interactive links. Each section in the books has a QR code which, once scanned using a smartphone, takes you to a YouTube Video Tuition Lesson where Gounden narrates how to solve the maths questions.

“I’ve always had a flair for maths. I’ve tutored Maths privately and I’ve also taught Maths for eight years. I was constantly experiencing a large number of students who couldn’t grasp the higher level content and I feel it’s because they did not adequately grasp Maths content from their junior years. This is what led me to launching the guides. It was a way to address the frustration of learners and teachers. I launched the books in March and I’ve been buoyed by the success I’ve received. I’m getting orders by the day which is great,” she said.

Gounden who is currently completing her PhD in education said she has sold more than 100 copies of the guides so far.

“I’m extremely proud of how the guides have been received. The aim of the books was to allow all learners to have access to extra maths tuition at their beck and call,” she said.
