ON FRIDAY last week police carried out a joint operation. The Greenwood Park SAPS along with the City, Transnet, Eskom and Telkom, undertook an inspection of second-hand dealers in the area. The inspection was to ensure that dealers were complying with the law.
All registered scrap metal dealers within the area were also inspected.
“All local registered scrap metal dealers were also inspected to ensure that there were no stolen copper or cable on the business premises. Dealers were also work shopped on what metals/cables to purchase and what not to,” said the station’s spokesperson, W/O Leon Audh.
Audh reminded the community that people who sell to illegal traders are also guilty of breaking the law. He went on to say that trading with illegal dealers ‘is having a dire effect on our economy’.
