Woman charged after false ‘R13 000 robbery’

The woman also claimed she was kidnapped by three people.

A WOMAN has been arrested and charged with perjury after opening a false case where she alleged she was robbed of R13 000 on North Coast Road. According to W/O Leon Audh, spokesman for the Greenwood Park SAPS, the victim also claimed she was kidnapped.

“The suspect alleged she was standing on North Coast Road when she was accosted by two men and a woman who forced her to jump into their vehicle. They then ‘robbed’ her of R13 000 before dropping her off in Bester. The alleged victim then opened up a case of robbery and kidnapping.

“After investigations, our detective discovered the whole scenario was in fact a lie. After questioning the suspect we discovered the perpetrator went to the bank on behalf of her employer to cash a cheque and on her own accord misappropriated the funds. The suspect then fabricated a scenario where it seemed as if she was robbed of her cash and kidnapped,” he said.

This is the second incident of a false case opened in the North Durban area. This comes after a woman was charged for opening a false case of robbery at Pearls Mall in uMhlanga.
