WATCH: Protesters clash with police on Durban beachfront

The clash happened near the Pavilion Hotel on the Durban beachfront.

A VIDEO showing what appears to be members of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) clashing with the police and Democratic Alliance (DA) members is doing the rounds on social media. It’s unclear what led to the flare up, but the incident occurred just outside the Pavilion Hotel a short while ago.

In the video, several members of the ANC try and stop the angry mob from interacting with the police and some of the DA supporters. The incident seems to be an isolated one.

Earlier this morning, hundreds of residents, including civil societies and other members of the Democratic Alliance took part in a march which was part of a nationwide anti-Zuma protest. The mass protest action was a response to President Zuma’s much criticised Cabinet reshuffle and axing of the then finance minister Pravin Gordhan.

Col Thulani Zwane, provincial spokesman for the SAPS, said he knew about the protesters making their way down to the beachfront but was unaware of any arrests or fighting.
