Woman charged after Pearls false case ‘robbery’

The woman claimed she was robbed in the parking lot in February.

POLICE have opened a case of defeating the ends of justice against the woman who claimed she was robbed by a man at the Pearls Mall in February this year. The woman claimed she was held up by two men in the parking lot of the new mall. According to the initial case that was opened, the woman was busy loading items into the boot of her car when the suspect demanded her valuables. She told police the man grabbed her bag which contained her laptop and fled to an awaiting getaway vehicle.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, police were seeing more cases like this with people claiming for insurance purposes.

“We are still investigating the case however, I can confirm a case of defeating the ends of justice has been opened following the claims of the robbery. False claims of crimes are a waste of police resources. This is not the first of false cases being opened, we’ve seen more and more people trying to defraud their insurance by lying about theft or robbery cases,” he said.
